Corgi  AA34001 Consolidated B-24J Liberator
USAAF 43rd BG, 64th BS, #44-40973 The Dragon and his Tail, Le Shima Island, 1945

The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was a heavy bomber designed for the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. The B-24 was first flown on December 29, 1939, and was delivered to the AAF a few days later. It was designed to have greater speed, range, and bomb load than the B-17, which the USAAC originally requested Consolidated to build under license.

Despite its advantages, the B-24 was more difficult to fly, had poor formation-flying characteristics, and was much more vulnerable to battle damage, which made it less popular among American aircrews. Nevertheless, it proved to be a serviceable aircraft, especially for long-range missions.

Corgi's 1:72 scale B-24 series includes the early war B-24D and late war B-24H and B-24J variants, which feature a nose gun turret and retractable ball turret. These WWII heavy bombers are highly sought-after diecast models that accurately recreate the distinctive shape of the Liberator. They also include details such as simulated fabric control surfaces. The models are made of diecast metal and some plastic components and come with realistic panel lines, antennas, and surface details. The markings and placards are pad printed, which ensures they won't fade or peel like decals.

The Corgi "Aviation Archive" range presents highly detailed, ready-made diecast models of military and civilian aircraft. These models are based on specific aircraft from important historical or modern eras of flight and have been authentically detailed from original documents and archival library material. They come with interchangeable extended/retracted landing gear with rotating wheels and a poseable presention stand to display the aircraft "in flight." They also feature hand-painted pilot and crew member figures, authentic detachable ordnance loads complete with placards, and selected moving parts such as gun turrets, control surfaces, and swing wings.
